Thanks for coming to dinner

thanks to everyone who joined us for drinks and dinner last week. we hope you found the conversation as energizing and intriguing as we did. and that you'll join us from time to time in talking more about innovation here.

the purpose of this blog is just to keep everyone up to date and talking about this overly broad term 'innovation'. it's hard for us to wrap our heads around, and we wanted to keep the conversation going. we'll share our thoughts and what we make as a result of the conversations we're having; feel free to do the same. this isn't proprietary, it's not a focus group; it's just a blog.

some basic blogging guidelines: link out to your sources; embed images and video and sound; post comments and questions; be collegial.

an email is about to go out to all those who joined us asking the following questions... these were on that discussion guide sitting on my lap throughout dinner, but we just didn't quite have time to get to them...

  • What ideas or things are innovative, to you? Why?
  • Who are innovative people or companies? Why?
  • Where are the hotbeds of innovation - countries, cities, industries, etc.? Why?
  • What's the difference between good and bad innovation? Are there such distinctions? How do you draw them?
  • Do you believe what you are doing is innovative? Why/why not?
  • What makes someone/an organization innovative? What encourages it, stifles it, rewards it , enables it?
  • What are the benefits of innovation? What are the costs?
  • Are there some categories or brands that don't need to innovate? Do some have to innovate more quickly than others? More slowly? Which ones and why?
  • How do you approach innovation? Is it simple problem-solving or goal-setting, or is it something else? What processes, tools, shortcuts, techniques do you use?
  • What makes meaningful, useful, relevant innovation when it comes to the relationship between brands and consumers? Why should consumers care, and how can they contribute?
thanks again, everyone... we hope to keep talking to you about ideas...
